Friday Field Trip-Ball of Twine

Now I know, this probably isn't something to jump up and down about...the thought of seeing a big ball of twine but for me it was a thrill when I realized we would be going by it on our journey north! Have you ever seen the movie "Michael" with John Travolta? Well, that's what started this obsession to see the obscure sites our great country has to offer....only this isn't the one in the movie (much to my dismay). The one in the movie happens to be in Minnesota and it was made by one man...whereas the one in Kansas is also the worlds largest but it was made by many people and continues to be added on to still today...

That's right, we got to leave our mark in Kansas! (They measure an weigh the twine and have it available in the gift shop!)

After taking a ton of pictures by this roadside attraction, we wandered across the street to a corner gift shop (it's not well marked but it is there!) where we found a sign stating that the store is closed on Wednesdays (the day we happened to be there) and my heart sank! Then I read, that we could call a number and the owner would come up, or she gave her home address where we could stop by and see the items she had there also! Talk about small town huh? :) As it turned out, the owner was there in the store after all and was nice enough to let us look around! She had a mix of twine souvenirs and antique store items too...we settled on a few postcards to send friends and began our collection of Christmas ornaments for the trip! This wasn't something that we really planned but will make for a fun trip down memory lane when we get them out this holiday season!

All and all, this was one of my favorite stops. It didn't involved anything fancy, no flashing lights or cool rides....but the girls loved it just the same. We stopped and had a rest from the drive, a cup of peaches from Aunt Tish, and lots of pictures to remember the day...

I challenge all of you to find something off the beaten path and take joy in something simple today...we have the good fortune of living in an amazing country (no matter what country you live in- I think there is something amazing about it!) and it's all the little details that make it so great but unfortunately it's also those little details that tend to get over looked....

I think its so great you have this opportunity! You are very right, its the little things that seem to matter most at the end of the day. And too often they are over looked and passed by. Thank you for sharing!
