Repurposed memories

I read about this giveaway over at Whatslifewithoutwhimsy and just had to check it out! I love the idea of repurposing something old into something new and useable anyways and to make a much loved clothing item into new gifts for so many is just great!!

I still have a sweater that belonged to my Grandpa....I can remember wearing it for the longest time and in some strange way, it brought me some small amount of comfort...like he wasn't really gone...I have since retired the sweater to a drawer in my dresser but there's still times that I take it out and just hold it...close my eyes and remember his big strong hands, or his deep hearty chuckle...and I still find comfort in that sweater....

While the weather has been hot and rainy, we have been trying to keep busy in the trailer. There have been lots of time spent playing with fairies and tangrams ...

And I have been busy working on swaps for Bits of Goodness! I was the host of a swap for doll house/fairy house items! I would post pictures, but some of the boxes are still in transit but here's a peek at what I made!

A tiny doily!

I so enjoyed making these and can't wait to give a few to the girls for their doll house! How fun it will be setting up a house with all the little details!

And I'm just finishing up these little dragon flies for a summer nature table swap...it's hard to keep track of them...the girls keep trying to sneak off with them!! (Please excuse the picture quality- I took them with my phone! lol)

Somewhere along the way, I got lucky and actually won a few giveaways on other blogs!! I feel sooo lucky!!! The girls are going to love the new zhu zhu stuff! I'm having it shipped to their grandma's house so we will pick it up mid-move. I figure it will be a great diversion while we are unpacking at the new house (which is still yet to be found)! And my other good fortune has been keeping me company in the afternoons while the girls nap...the wealth of information I have been learning is amazing!!!

Zhu Zhu crazy

I told myself I wasn't going to jump on this train....no...real animals are always better and junky toys will loose their appeal....but the girls were so convincing and we had some great coupons so we let them each get one of these little zhu zhu pets that are all the craze. Surprizingly, they are pretty cool and for once, maybe even better than the real thing! No squeeky wheels, no messy cages= hours of fun! BUT... I said I wasn't going to buy the extra additions...if they wanted to have cages and clothes they had to make them...so J set off to knit them a blanket! Well, their birthdays rolled around and Aunt T sent them a big box with sleeping bags and a housing kit.

Ok, I didn't buy it so technically I was still sticking to my guns on not buying the stuff myself...ok, I have to admit when I am wrong...these things are cool and my girls LOVE them!!! So far they haven't gotten bored and so far I still haven't actually bought them attachments...however I am doing everything in my power to win them some!!!

Waldorf Expo Giveaway!!

I have entered myfair share of blog give-a-ways, but this one is one that I am really hoping the universe sees fit to send my way! :)
I have been trying to keep up with the recordings of the Waldorf Connection and have just been amazed at the information I am learning from them...I feel like I am back in school again for all the notes I've been taking! I will forever be thankful for the Waldorf community and the insights I am learning from other moms and teachers. I first heard about the Waldorf approach to learning and toys, from a friend (yeah for Sue!) a few years ago and was intrigued right away! I started reading more about it and slowly transitioning our girls' toys from that yucky plastic to the natural toys of wood and fabrics. I can't even begin to discribe the difference it has had on them and on our household in general. There is no denying that if you were to compare the plastic playfood that we used to have, to the amazing wooden/cloth ones, there would be no comparison...I will be forever in debt to the Waldorf community for caring about everything my children come in contact with... I would be so excited to win this giveaway and could already tell you what I would use it for! Stockmar paint would be at the top of that list!!! I can already see us creating master pieces under the awning of our trailer! lol Crossing my fingers now!

Critters

I am going just about batty not being able to create the way I am used to....the wood working tools have long since been packed, the sewing machine is here with me but my fabrics are all folded and tucked away for the move and my felting needles are safely away too...so until then I will just have to enjoy the artful toys of others...including MamaRoots

We're going on a bird hunt

It's funny that I would find this give-a-way at Resurrection Fern just when I was thinking about posting these pictures from vacation. She has a book called "Little Birds" that just looks to be adorable and totally something we would love to have an make things from!! Go check it out!

There must be something in the air about birds! My girls are crazy about the birds we see out our windows here in the trailer, so much so that we put up a little bird feeder in the tree next us! Now if the birds would only find it, the cats would be oh so happy!
